So, apparently super healthy people drink smoothies, like A LOT. And that makes sense because how else are you going to get 8 different veggies and fruits down your throat in time to throw the kids in the car and make it to carline on time?
But I just cannot stand to muscle down another disgusting one. So, I have discovered the formula for determining if a smoothie REALLY tastes good. Here is the formula:
The taste is inversely related to the healthnuttiness of the person who gives it to you
That means… You have to try to figure out HOW LONG a person has been eating clean before you listen to their recipe. If they are have been eating clean for years, you cannot trust their recipe. Their taste buds have already changed and they can no longer be trusted. For example, my beloved tennis partner, Krista, cannot recall EVER eating sugary cereal in her ENTIRE LIFE. This woman looks amazing. Her skin is perfection. She is my idol. I want to be her one day.
But at this point, I am hungry.
I want yumminess.
I cannot get yummy recipes from this person. Her taste buds have never known the guilty goodness of Cinnamon Toast Crunch at midnight or drinking Fruit Loop milk straight from the bowl. She’s been too healthy for too long.
On the other hand, my friend Niki, has been doing her cleanse for about five days. She just emerged from the fog of the caffeine withdrawal today. This girl used to drink coffee all day. She still remembers what Oreos taste like. I would trust her if she had a smoothie recipe (not that Niki is unhealthy. She is actually thin and beautiful and eats mostly organic food, but I have also seen her devour a macaroon in one bite, so I feel comfortable that she remembers sugar).
So, these recipes are from trusted friends who still have Chick Fil-A ice dreams. Also, I cannot give EXACT measurements because who measures for smoothies? I just throw stuff in there until the solid stuff and the liquid stuff are about equal.
Tastes Like a Frosty
This came from Kellye Rickman, a friend who is also a Juice Plus rep. The protein powder is all organic, so e-mail her if you need some: firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Silk Chocolate Almond Milk
- 1 scoop of Juice Plus Chocolate Protein Powder
- 2 scoops of peanut butter
- 1/2 to 1 banana
Peachy Yum Yum
Recipe from Whitney, a sweet friend who started her clean eating about a week ago. I know she likes puppy chow… the sweet treat, not the dog food… so she has been vetted.
- Frozen Pineapples
Anything with Coconut Milk
This is my recommendation. I got it from the Clean Eats Cookbook and can vouch that it’s good!

- coconut water
- Medajoul dates
- vanilla extract
PB and J Smoothie
My husband makes this smoothie all the time and it always rocks. I drink it even when I don’t want to be healthy.

- Nut Butter
- Chia Seeds
If you have a great smoothie recipe, please leave a comment and I will definitely try it!
