Not Ready for Cleaning Eating But I’m Starting Anyway

clean book dr. jungerIt’s 7:36 AM on November 7, 2015 and it’s time to change some bad eating habits.

I have been listening to a book titled, CLEAN by Dr. Alejandro Junger for a few days and I haven’t even finished the book yet. But I want to start today, so this blog is my way of FORCING MYSELF to do it. Somehow the accountability of having to post something daily keeps me from weaseling out when the caffeine headaches begin or telling myself that I only really planned to do the program for a week when it’s actually a 3-week program.

Actually, this program includes a 3-day pre-cleanse, 21-day cleanse, and a 7-day reintroduction process. That means this entire journey should last 31 days, so it should last until December 9th.

This is SO not a good time to start.

We are in the middle of Fall baseball, so we are at the ball fields 4 nights per week.

I have not gone to the grocery store, so I am not even prepared for this.

This program is going to last through Thanksgiving.

But I really don’t care. Is there ever a good time? I think it’s like having kids…. if you wait until the time is right, you will never do it, right?

clean eating starting today

So, I am starting today. And I am blogging about it, even though people don’t even seem to do that anymore, do they? This feels very FIVE YEARS AGO. But I don’t even care. I did a few projects back when Julie & Julia made it cool to blog through a journey and it was REALLY helpful. It was built-in accountability, encouragement, and community.

I don’t even HAVE a personal blog right now, but I’m just starting this one today. So, I’m sorry the blog is not very cute. I’ll try to work on that while I am NOT eating.

Here are the basics of the CLEAN Program.

1.) Start with a 3-day Pre-cleanse. (This is what I am starting today)

This is the list of no-no’s during the Pre-cleanse Phase:

  • No dairy
  • No gluten
  • No beef, pork, or eggs
  • No corn or soy
  • No processed sugar
  • No caffeine
  • No tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, potatoes, yams, sweet potatoes
  • No bananas, oranges, strawberries, or grapes.

So, what can I eat during the Pre-cleanse Phase?

  • Whole Vegetables
  • Leafy Greens
  • Whole Fruits
  • Berries
  • Brown Rice
  • Quinoa
  • Beans, legumes, and lentils
  • Nuts, seeds, and nut butters
  • Avocado
  • Coconut Oil
  • Green tea
  • Yerba mate (what on earth is this?)
  • Stevia (really… no bananas but I can have Stevia?)

I’m not selling anything.

By the way, I am not a dealer of any kind of product. This blog is not a bait and switch to force you to buy vitamins, protein powder, or buy Dr. Junger’s book.

Feel free to leave advice.

The main reason I am starting this blog is the accountability, but it’s also for advice, recipes, and input from others who have done something similar. Feel free to leave comments or send me an e-mail at emily@emilyosburne.com.

Here goes (I have a feeling I am going to regret this very shortly)!

I’m very proud of you Emily! I just read a book recommended by my sons cardiologist. It’s “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease”. It is the book that has helped Dick Cheney and Bill Clinton with their heart disease. It says do not eat anything that has a face or a Mother. I’m starting my third week and just finished my second week at Orange Beach Al. I have had fish two nights and oysters last evening. I do have some good recipes from the book. I’ll post when I get home. My vegan diet doesn’t allow oils including Olive oil and no nuts or nut butters. I know you can do this and it does make you feels so good. They say after 12 weeks you will completely stop craving meats and oils. Maybe this will keep me motivated too.

Debbie, you are so sweet! Thank you for the encouragement! I would really love some recipes. Today was good, but I pretty much ate salad all day and I can’t do that the whole time. I am really hoping to rid myself of some unhealthy cravings and begin to crave whole foods. I will definitely check out the book. Thank you!

Love it!! I need to send you a cauliflower soup recipe I loved when I did a similar detox. Nice to have as a go to in the fridge when you’re starving!! I need to do it again!! Especially after I just downed chic fila for lunch!

Kerry, I absolutely LOVE cauliflower soup, but I’ve never made it. It seems like it would be really hard to make, but I think it will be important to have some food in the fridge that is ready to go. Clay got Chick Fil-A for the boys and I smelled it when I walked in the house today. That was hard to resist!
